Dry Eye Assessment

Dry Eye Assessment

Dry Eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or produce tears that do not have the proper chemical composition. Factors that contribute to dry eye include: age, environmental conditions, hormonal status, medications, use of digital devices, excess tear evaporation etc. Dry eye may also be related to systemic health problems such as arthritis.

Symptoms of dry eye include stinging, gritty or foreign body sensation, burning, scratch/uncomfortable eyes, vision fluctuations, and/or excess tearing. There are many types of treatments for dry eye including artificial tears, lifestyle changes, eyelid hygiene, nutritional supplements etc. Other treatments include inserting plugs in the corner of the eyelids to slow drainage and loss of tears, treating any underlying systemic disease, or prescription medications to help your body produce more of its own tears. Our doctors will assess your tear film and its deficiencies and recommend the best treatment for you.
